Job Description:
The Postdoctoral Research Scholar position will join a multidisciplinary team working in genomics and bioinformatics of cotton and/or other crops within the Department of Crop & Soil Sciences at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina. The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will focus on producing and analyzing data from Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) based genomic tools (eg. Illumina and PacBio) to study population genomics in cotton and/or other crop species.

The position's overall goals will be to analyze genomics data in combination with phenotypic data to determine loci affecting important traits; improve breeding strategies through genomic selection; and generate genomic resources such as genetic linkage maps and variation databases using sequencing techniques. Projects of the position will involve multiple institutions as well as possible international collaboration. The position will complete bioinformatic analyses using high performance computing platforms for handling BigData sets. Specific tasks will be in the realm of DNA and RNA sequence analysis, quantitative trait loci analysis, genome wide association analysis, using Linux, Perl, Python, MySQL or other database, R-statistical analysis software scripting, and NGS library construction.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., M.D., D.V.M., Sc.D.) in appropriate field awarded no more than five (5) years from initial date of postdoctoral appointment.

* PhD, obtained within the last five years, in genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, molecular biology or related discipline.

* Demonstrated ability to publish research findings related to research in peer-reviewed journals is essential.

* Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English. Be able to articulate clearly the scientific, technical, and personal skills needed to set and achieve clear goals within an interdisciplinary setting and with remote collaborators.

* Work independently and creatively, as well as collaborating effectively within a team.
