Job Description:
The Institute for Genomic Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center seeks a highly motivated and creative postdoctoral research scientist to study the genetic and genomic basis of epilepsy disorders, with a particular focus on the role of post-zygotically acquired mutations. This position represents an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of precision medicine and therapeutic discovery working within a leading genomic medicine institute.

The successful candidate will use next-generation sequencing data from a large cohorts of patients to develop novel approaches of identifying and interpreting how mutations unique to tissue and cell populations in the epileptic brain contribute to clinical and neuropathological phenotypes. Working with other statistical and molecular geneticists, the successful candidate will also be involved with studies of other aspects of brain tissue- and cell-specific genomic regulation, and the germline genetic basis of the epilepsies.

We are particularly interested in individuals with bioinformatics, statistical, and disease genetics expertise. Excellent communication skills and fluency in both spoken and written English are essential.

The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr. Erin Heinzen, Deputy director of the Institute for Genomic Medicine and Assistant Professor of Pathology and Cell Biology, and have significant interactions with faculty and other scientists in the Institute and at Columbia University.
