Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate(s) with a background in Bioinformatics (or Computer Science) for a postdoctoral position with a possibility of future faculty track position within the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center. The candidate will be engaged in research focusing on neuro-degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's Disease as well as other age related traits. The faculty members of the genetic epidemiology group are engaged in research focusing on gene mapping, functional genetics and translational studies.

Responsibilities

Develop, characterize and optimize bioinformatics tools to analyze high-throughput genetic and genomic data (genome-wide SNPs, whole exome/genome sequencing, and expression data).

Perform statistical analysis of the genomic data in family-based as well as case-control or cohort study designs.

Prepare manuscripts, grant proposals, and scientific meetings presentations.

Be able to work independently and collaboratively with highly interactive research groups.

Minimum Degree Required:
M.D. and/or Ph.D.

Minimum Qualifications:
All applicants MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered for the position.

Ph.D. in Bioinformatics or Computer Science.

Shell scripting and programming proficiency in Python, C, C++, or Java on UNIX/Linux environments, particularly with large text files and genomic data.

Familiarity with commonly used human sequence data analysis bioinformatics tools (SAMtools, GATK, Picard) and genetic databases (Ensembl Genes, 1000 Genomes, ESP, HapMap, UCSC Genome Browser).

Working knowledge of statistical genetics will be a plus.

Excellent written and verbal communication.

Preferred Qualifications:
Training and/or experience in Neurodegenerative disorders
