The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with a multi-disciplinary group of biologists (the principle director of the research project; and students) and soil scientists (the co-principle directors). Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in experimental setup of this research project, and perform field trial studies.
- Compile and construct a literature review of bioinformatics analysis for soil microbial community.
- Develop/identify and validate bioinformatics workflows that are suitable for and in response to the needs of current research project.
- Deliver high-quality and timely analysis for high volumes of data collected from this research project, which include soil property data and next-generation sequencing (NGS) data from soil microbial community. Interpret data and draw proper conclusions.
- Prepare protocols, reports and manuscripts that can be disseminated via scholarly and professional outlets including presentations and conferences and journal papers.
- Assist in preparing grant proposal(s) that are built on the findings of current research project to attract new funding opportunities.
- Assist the principle director in graduate student training, esp. in accessing and bioinformatics analysis of sequencing data for soil microbial community and interpretation of results.
- Performs other pertinent duties as assigned.
- A PhD in molecular genetics, bioinformatics or related fields.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of experimental design, bioinformatics analysis, and data analysis.
- Must possess the knowledge in agricultural/soil science and genetics and be able to work with faculty/students with diverse research backgrounds.
- Ability to communicate in oral and written English
- Ability to conduct, analyze, and interpret research results
- Ability to prepare publish papers and write proposals
