Job Description:

Postdoctoral researcher in Environmental Epigenetics combined with H2020 project management at Swedish Toxicology Sciences Research Center
Karolinska Institutet, Karolinska Institutet, Swedish Toxicology Sciences Research Center

Swedish Toxicology Sciences Research Center (Swetox) is a center for interdisciplinary research and education in toxicology sciences based on a collaboration between eleven Swedish universities, i.e. University of Gothenburg, Karlstad University, Karolinska Institutet, Royal Institute of Technology, Linköping University, Lund University, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Stockholm University, Umeå University, Uppsala University and Örebro University, with its hub at Swetox Södertälje.

The vision of Swetox is “A chemical safe world”. The aim is to contribute to the development of safe chemicals, a sustainable environment and improved human health. Swetox also aims to facilitate academic education in toxicology sciences in Sweden and to meet societal needs for improved decision making in the areas of chemicals, health and environment.
For more information about Swetox and current research projects, visit www.swetox.se

The project
Swetox is the coordinator for an EU-funded Horizon 2020 research initiative “Integrating Epidemiology and Experimental Biology to Improve Risk Assessment of Exposure to Mixtures of Endocrine Disruptive Compounds” (EDC-MixRisk). The EDC-MixRisk consortium consists of 12 partners, 6 from Sweden, and one each from France, Greece, Germany, Finland, Italy, and the USA.

The aim of the project is to promote safe use of chemicals for the next generation by developing chemical risk assessment based on improved understanding of the mechanisms and health effects of EDCs, in particular as mixtures. This will be achieved by an interdisciplinary research approach including: i) epidemiology of two child cohorts focused on three health domains (growth and metabolism; neurodevelopment, and sexual development); ii) a web of experimental toxicology and molecular biology approaches to determine multiple adverse health outcomes starting from molecular mechanisms experienced during early life exposure to EDC mixtures iii) regulatory toxicology for development of a transparent and systematic risk assessment framework.

The position
The successful candidate will be granted a 2-year full-time position as Postoctoral Researcher at Swetox Södertälje, which also is a unit at Karolinska Institutet. Approximately 70% of the position will be dedicated to research and 30% to project management of EDC-MixRisk. The position may be extended up to 4 years.

Areas of responsibility
The research aims at identifying effects of EDC-mixtures on epigenetic patterns and telomere biology in cell models, in tissues of different animal models, and in human samples.
The project management role includes coordination of reports and deliverables, communication between the consortium and the commission as well as between the partners, and organization of meetings and other events. The role includes close contact with the Coordinator, and the Project Support Team.
