Job Description:
The Department of Biomedical Informatics at Arizona State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Virus Phylogeography to support an NIH sponsored research project. The anticipated start date is May 2015. The position will also include a joint appointment in the Center for Environmental Security, Biodesign Institute.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, 12-month appointment. Salary is $50,000 per year, depending on qualifications, and support for travel to conferences will be available. Renewal is possible, contingent on additional funding by the sponsor and satisfactory job performance. The successful candidate is responsible for relocation and housing expenses. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the research plan and fulfill the goals established with their supervising faculty member, Dr. Matthew Scotch; assist the supervising faculty member and other project investigators in fulfilling the requirements of the project in a timely manner; communicate regularly with the supervising faculty member and other members of the research team; and notify the faculty member of any change in research plans. Positions are renewed annually at the beginning of each fiscal year and contingent on funding, performance, and the needs of the department.

Eligibility
Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications below and have no more than two years of formal postdoctoral experience. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States by time of the appointment.  Minimum Qualifications

- PhD in Biomedical Informatics/Bioinformatics, Evolutionary and Computational Virology, Biology, or related field/discipline. Doctoral candidates with pending degrees who successfully defend their dissertation by May 1, 2015 will also be considered.
- Demonstrated, relevant expertise in virus phylogeography.
- Demonstrated, relevant experience in databases and Web programming.

Desired Qualifications

- Demonstrated, relevant expertise or experience in using BEAST (http://beast.bio.ed.ac.uk).
