Job Description:
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the Center for Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics, to investigate the genetics underlying susceptibility to and development of ovarian cancer. The Genetic Epidemiology group within the Center studies the role of both germline and somatic genetic variation in ovarian cancer, with a specific focus on the role of non-coding variants and pathogenic coding mutations. Population based GWAS studies are coupled with whole genome sequencing studies in lymphocytes and tumor tissues to identify drivers of heritable cancer risk and tumor recurrence. We are searching for a talented post-doctoral fellow with training in genetic analysis methods that include: imputation and genome wide association analysis; eQTL analysis; analysis of large scale genomics datasets including RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and whole genome and exome sequencing; target gene resequencing in large populations of 1000s of subjects.

The position requires a good appreciation of computational approaches to evaluate the contribution of genetic variation in the coding and non-coding genome to tumor initiation and development. The Center for Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics brings together teams specializing in bioinformatics and computational biology, functional analyses and next generation sequencing (3C/4C/HiC, ChIP-Seq) and genome editing to provide a complete pipeline for identifying the functional consequences of GWAS-identified risk loci and cancer susceptibility genes. The appointed postdoctoral scientist will work with a project scientist to perform genetic epidemiology studies (GWAS, sequencing studies). The post-holder should be able to work independently and within in a multiple disciplinary team comprising senior and junior post-doctoral scientists, research technicians, clinical fellows and graduate students.

The successful candidate will conduct research (both directed and independent) under the direction of Drs. Gayther and Jones, submit and publish papers and posters, and make oral presentations. This post-holder must be well organized and be able to demonstrate writing and presentation skills.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities:

 Designs research studies and performs data analysis.

 Will assist in collaborative projects where necessary if they can bring a unique expertise to a study.

 Will participate in and help organize weekly meetings.

 Will assist in the write-up data for publication.

 Will attend scientific meetings and present research findings.

 Will design and carry out studies independently and as part of the wider team.

 Will Interpret, summarize and compiles results.

 Will write up data for publication as a senior author, and contribute to the preparation and publication of other research projects as a co-author.

 Will contribute to the writing and submission of grant proposals within the research team, and have the opportunity to write grant proposals for funding of research.

Educational Requirements:

PhD or highest degree in their field.

Experience:

-The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate significant, original, and creative contributions to a research program and specific projects within that project.

-The candidate should have previous experience with the analysis of genetic (GWAS) and/or genomics datasets (array based, NGS or RNA-Seq). Knowledge of population genetics or cancer genetics. Demonstrated competency in a variety of data analysis techniques and protocols.

-Good evidence of working independently and as part of a team.

-A publication track record in genetics and genomics analysis of coding and non-coding genetic variation.

Additional Info:
Cedars-Sinai is a non-profit, academic, community-centric, Level 1 Trauma Center in Los Angeles, California. Recognized internationally, Cedars-Sinai brings together top healthcare professionals collaborating to provide exceptional patient care. A combination of patient satisfaction scores, clinical performance initiatives, excellent medical outcomes, national designations and awards and ongoing research and academic programs have earned Cedars-Sinai a top spot on the Honor Roll in the 2014-15 issue of America's Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Out of nearly 5,000 hospitals surveyed for the annual rankings, Cedars-Sinai is among just 17 hospitals nationwide to earn the magazine’s Honor Roll designation. To be named to the Honor Roll, a hospital must be rated among the nation’s top 50 programs in at least six specialties. Cedars-Sinai was ranked in 12 categories, including: Cancer; Cardiology and Heart Surgery; Diabetes and Endocrinology; Ear, Nose and Throat; Gastroenterology & GI Surgery; Geriatrics; Gynecology; Nephrology, Neurology and Neurosurgery; Orthopedics; Pulmonology; and Urology. Cedars-Sinai has also received its fourth consecutive Magnet® recognition for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), becoming the hospital with the longest-running Magnet designation in California. Nationwide, only about 5% of hospitals have earned the four-year Magnet designation. Cedars-Sinai was the first Southern California hospital to earn the Magnet honor in 2000, and one of only six hospitals to receive this designation three times. Studies show that Magnet hospitals tend to have lower mortality and infection rates, as well as higher patient satisfaction and nurse staffing levels. The quality and dedication of our talented nurses, allied health professionals and physicians make Cedars-Sinai one of the nation's leading academic medical centers.
