Job Description:
The Precision Medicine Data Scientist role is responsible for modeling complex problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic, bio-informatics, data-mining and visualization techniques on large clinical, demographic, and genomic datasets. Job Responsibilities: -Applies advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques to build, maintain, and improve on multiple real-time decision systems. -Develops innovative and effective approaches to solve client's and customer’s analytics problems and communicates results and methodologies. -Works in iterative processes with the client and validates findings. -Develops experimental design approaches to validate finding or test hypotheses. -Validates analysis using scenario modeling. -Identifies/creates the appropriate algorithm to discover patterns. -Utilizes patterns and variations in the volume, speed and other characteristics of data supporting the initiative, the type of data (e.g., Clinical claims, lab data, demographics data, inferred diagnosis, genomics data) in predictive analysis. -Presents and depicts the rationale of their findings in easy to understand terms for the business. -Communicates and works with business subject matter experts and organizational leadership. -Provides business and clinical metrics to show improvements (contribution to the improvement should be monitored initially and over multiple iterations). -Provides on-going tracking and monitoring of performance of decision systems and statistical models. -Work with others to develop, refine and scale data management and analytics procedures, systems, workflows, best practices and other issues. -This role will work closely with company founders and managers, developers, clients, data stewards, project/program managers, Chief Security Officer, and other IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound organizational decisions. -Develop and vet algorithms and visualizations that may be used in software algorithms, user-interfaces, and population reporting on datasets comprising of tens-to-hundreds of millions of patients. -This role will require direct interface with high-level executives (Chief Medical Officers, Chief Operations Officers, Chief Risk Officers, Chief Analytics Officers, CEO, and other positions) of current and potential customers which typically are large health insurers and national health systems. -Collaborate with customers and our Interpreta executive team to come up with innovative and disruptive approaches to improving the quality of medical care and reducing costs. -Must provide data that is congruent and reliable. -This role will need to be able to present back his/her findings to the business by exposing their assumptions and validation work in a way that can be easily understood by their business counterparts. Job Requirements: -In addition to advanced analytic skills, this role is also proficient at integrating and preparing large, varied datasets (in liaison with IT data teams and Chief Security Officer), architecting specialized database and computing environments, and communicating results. -Must be a creative thinker and propose innovative ways to look at problems by using data mining (the process of discovering new patterns from large datasets) approaches on the set of information available. -Must have the ability to validate their findings using an experimental and iterative approach. -Will possess a combination of business focus, bioinformatics knowledge, strong analytical and problem solving skills and adequate programming knowledge to be able to quickly cycle hypothesis through the discovery phase of the project. -This role requires very responsible handling of highly sensitive private protected health information to ensure privacy and security is maintained, and will closely cooperate with the Chief Security Officer in this regard. -Will require very careful consideration and observance of HIPAA and GINA regulations to ensure that protected health information is not exposed. -Must be presentable and comfortable communicating clearly with executives at this level and become familiar with the health insurance industry specific concerns and goals of our customers. -Excellent written and communications skills to report back the findings in a clear, structured manner are required. -Demonstrates the following scientist qualities: clarity, accuracy, precision, relevance, depth, breadth, logic, significance, and fairness. EDUCATION: -Masters in mathematics, bioinformatics, statistics or computer science or related field; PhD degree preferred. -Typically requires 5 or more years of relevant quantitative and qualitative research and analytics experience. -Solid knowledge of statistical techniques. -The ability to come up with solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging pattern detection over potentially large datasets. -Strong programming skills (such as Hadoop MapReduce or other big data frameworks, Java, Python, Julia), statistical modeling (like SAS or R). -Experience using machine learning algorithms. -High proficiency in the use of statistical packages. -Proficiency in statistical analysis, quantitative analytics, forecasting/predictive analytics, multivariate testing, and optimization algorithms. -Strong communication and interpersonal skills. -Experience leading teams. -In-depth industry/business knowledge.
