Job Description:
We are seeking a Principal Scientist to lead projects in Systems and Computational Immunology in the Precision Immunology Cluster of our Immunology & Inflammation Research Therapeutic Area. The candidate will use systems/computational immunology and statistical approaches to analyze immune and genomics profiling data for the identification of new drug targets and molecular biomarkers to be used in precision medicine. He/She will work closely with other disciplines across Sanofi to drive early discovery research programs into early clinical development, providing scientific and technical leadership.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead systems and computational immunology studies for identifying novel targets, biomarkers and pathways to stratify and treat chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases; connecting cutting-edge science with unmet medical need.
  • Lead development of computational and statistical methodologies for the integrative analysis of clinical, molecular and immune data sets.
  • Lead experimental study designs and methodological developments to address immunological questions by running statistically powered data analysis studies
  • Proactively engage with experiments immunologists, clinicians and cluster team members to foster inter-disciplinary exchanges and translate data analysis results into immunological developments and actionable experimental or clinical research plans.
  • Coordinate research efforts and make key technical contributions affecting the direction of the group and/or project.
  • Build efficient interactions with collaborators within and outside the Immunology and Inflammation Research and Early Development Therapeutic Area.
  • Provide scientific expertise, establish and manage external scientific collaborations, monitor external market, and provide critical assessment.
  • Provide scientific leadership to scientists and research associates, train the team, and promote their career development.
  • Provide and promote support for operational excellence according to Sanofi values and ethics.
  • Prepare publications, research and clinical/regulatory documentation in accordance with Sanofi quality standards.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in a computational biology, biostatistics, mathematics or related fields with a minimum of 6 years of industry or academic experience
  • Deep expertise in data analysis, systems and computational biology applied to translational and immunology research, and excellent record of research and recent publications in the field.
  • Deep knowledge of biostatistics and machine learning methods
  • Strong interest and understanding of immunology
  • Excellent programming skills (at least one among R and Matlab and at least one among C/C++, Java, Perl/Python)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with cross-functional projects involving the use of genomics and immune profiling data to generate novel hypotheses, understand mechanisms of actions, identifying candidate targets and biomarkers
  • Deep knowledge of biological, genomics and immune data resources
  • Good knowledge of relational databases and SQL
  • Strong people organizational and presentation skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills; track record of success working collaboratively across disciplines in a matrix environment
