Job Description:
The Australian Maritime College (AMC), an institute of the University of Tasmania, is a world leading maritime education, training and research institution in areas which include seafaring, ports and shipping and maritime engineering. The College is based on two main campuses at Launceston and Beauty Point and, after 30 years, has alumni in 56 countries.

AMC is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic leader as Professor/Associate Professor of Marine Engineering and Deputy Director (Marine Engineering) within the National Centre for Maritime Engineering and Hydrodynamics (NCMEH) and the National Centre for Ports and Shipping (NCPS).

The Deputy Director provides strategic academic leadership and management of marine engineering across teaching, training, research and community engagement programs. The Deputy Director is a member of the National Centres’ management teams and contributes to AMC’s strategic and operational planning and its engagement with industry, government, regulatory and community bodies. The Professor/Associate Professor of Marine Engineering will make a significant contribution to the AMC’s research profile in marine engineering and maintain close connections with the maritime industry to attract funded research, consultancies and other projects.

Applicants will have a PhD and a significant record of teaching, research and/or professional achievement in the maritime industry. Demonstrated success in generating funding from a range of sources and proven leadership and effective relationship management skills are considered essential. Professional experience in engineering is also required.

The Deputy Director role is fixed term for three years (renewable) and the Professorial appointment is continuing. The position is located in Launceston.
