Under general supervision, design and implement medium-sized research information systems. Exhibit ability to use a wide variety of research computer software tools and operating system environments. Duties and responsibilities: The diabetes research team at Wake Forest School of Medicine has multiple extramurally supported studies of the genetics of type 2 diabetes, diabetic nephropathy, obesity and cardiovascular disease risk factors primarily in African American and Hispanic populations. Projects include genome-wide and exome-wide associations, whole exome/genome sequencing, gene-gene and gene-environment interactions, linkage and metabolomics studies in family-based, population-based and/or electronic health records-based samples.

- The successful candidate will participate in analytical components of these research projects under the supervision of faculty members.
- His/her major duties will include management and analysis of big data in genomics, metabolomics and electronic health records.
- Programming skill including R, perl and/or other programming tools are required.
- Experience with machine learning are desirable.
- Oversee all phases of database design, development, management and reporting for medium-sized projects.
- Consult with users on project design needs. Maintain a professional relationship with project personnel.
- Maintain software and troubleshoot simple software products.
- Perform a range of ad hoc queries to databases and the implementation of automated reporting schemes. Analyze quality control needs of moderate sized projects.
- Perform a wide variety of data transfers and conversions.
- Create and maintain user manuals and documentation of software products.
- Design and implement a comprehensive software testing plan for software products developed.
- Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein.
- Bachelor's degree with computer courses.
- Two years of experience in computer programming or operations research or an equivalent amount of education and experience.
