Job Description:
The SIMONS CENTER FOR QUANTITATIVE BIOLOGY seeks an individual experienced in both scientific research and project management to work closely with the Center’s leadership and faculty in managing scientific projects. The candidate will manage, plan, and coordinate activities on QB projects to ensure that the objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. In addition, the candidate will help to prepare grant proposals and project reports, and help to manage computing equipment, office space, supplies, staffing, and project and grant budgets. The right individual will be highly organized, capable of participating in numerous projects in parallel, and an excellent communicator. The candidate should also be highly self-motivated and independent, and ideally will be entrepreneurial about identifying new opportunities for collaborations, projects, and funding. Frequent interaction will be required with external as well as internal collaborators. Specific responsibilities include: Reviews project proposals and plans to determine time frames, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of projects. Establishes work plan and multi-disciplinary staffing for each phase of project, and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel. Primarily responsible for the daily operation and oversight of laboratory projects to include, but not limited to, grant management, schedules and/or procedures, external communications, order inventory, coordination with QB staff, and interaction with other internal personnel. Position Requirements: Education: Master’s degree in Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related scientific field, with a PhD degree desired. Experience: At least five years experience in scientific research, knowledge of sponsored research projects, project management, or equivalent experience. Other: Highly organized, capable of participating in numerous projects in parallel, and an excellent communicator. Highly self-motivated and independent.
