The appointment will be on UCL Grade 9. The salary range will be Grade 9 £53,119 - £57,760 per annum , inclusive of London Allowance.
The Sainsbury Wellcome Centre, a newly-created research centre, is seeking to appoint an experienced manager for its Research and Innovation Fabrications Laboratory (R&IFL) – a new engineering facility being established with several £M of investment to focus on rapid high-quality prototyping of the highly specialised equipment required to accelerate innovative scientific research.
Duties include: establishing, leading and managing the R&IFL to provide a world-class innovation and manufacturing facility; providing precision technology and engineering solutions to meet the technically demanding needs of cutting-edge neuro-scientific research; managing Health and Safety within the facility; developing and implementing standard operating procedures; establishing long range strategic objectives for the facility; advising on Intellectual Property protection and potential translation; overseeing equipment tenders; drafting technical reports and writing up projects.
The post is funded until 31 July 2019 in the first instance.
Key requirements include: considerable past engineering, manufacturing and software development experience at a senior managerial level; experience of bio-electronics, behavioural systems, optical systems, mechatronics, sensors and actuators, RF communications and robotics systems; skills in concept proposals, multidisciplinary system design, Embedded System software development, PC software development (C++, Labview, C#, Python), schematic and PCB design, in-house electronic circuit prototyping, 3D design and modelling for 3D printing and CNC machines, system build and system integration, intellectual property protection.
