Berkeley Lab’s Molecular Biophysics and Integrated Bioimaging Division has an opening for a Research Assistant. As part of an NIH-funded project, the Auer laboratory has an opening for a Research Assistant that will assist with image analysis, including but not limited to image alignment, 3D reconstruction, noise reduction, as well as feature extraction and quantitative volumentric analysis and model building. The candidate will work with existing data sets and will help to obtain a volumetric model of hair cell stereocilia. What You Will Do:

The candidate will work with existing data sets and will help to obtain a volumetric model of hair cell stereocilia. What You Will Do:
- Under direct supervision, the Research Assistant will participate in a NIH supported Program Project Grant project to elucidate the 3D organization and structure of distinct macromolecular machines in the inner ear and lateral line hair cell stereocilia.
- Participate in and assist with efforts to analyze 3D data sets using electron tomography of resin-embedded tissue sections and cryo-tomography of plunge-frozen frozen-hydrated isolated individual stereocilia
- Assist with manual segmentation and model building of 3D tomographic stereocilia volumes
- Participate and present results at team meetings
- Maintain an accurate and detailed notebook of all computational experiments performed
- Work in a team with undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs
- Help with providing material for results for publication in scientific journals and for oral presentations
- Familiarity with Chimera, FIJI and IMOD
- Proven ability to organize research results for publication.
- Demonstrated knowledge of image reconstruction and volumetric analysis
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Full-time, M-F, non-exempt (hourly paid) from overtime pay.
- This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
- Salary will be determined based on range by collective bargaining agreement.
