We are recruiting for a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our team and contribute to the achievements of the Genomics Core Facility. The role holder will assist in the provision of NGS services, carrying out research support activities including operating NGS instruments and preparing nucleic acid into libraries for sequencing. They will also undertake independent work on technical development projects which are of benefit to the Core and the Institute. They will provide instrumentation training, general support and genomics expertise to enhance the quality of research at the Institute and across the University of Cambridge.
Skilled in a diversity of molecular biology techniques and able to demonstrate knowledge of a range of genomics procedures and concepts, potential candidates will also ideally have experience in the operation of Illumina Genome Analyser, HiSeq and/or MiSeq systems.
The successful candidate will be able to thrive in a team environment, provide help to other members of the team, and contribute to a positive atmosphere in the laboratory. They will possess excellent communication and customer service skills, and have the ability to deal confidently and diplomatically with a range of personalities and staff at all levels of seniority.
Applicants will ideally have a degree in a relevant subject (or equivalent experience), have experience in nucleic acid quantification and quality checking, be skilled in real-time PCR and ideally have experience of working in a core facility or service environment. Experience of using a laboratory information management system/LIMS is also desirable.
The Genomics Core Facility allows researchers at the CI access to state-of-the-art DNA and RNA analysis instruments, methods and applications; particularly NGS.
In 2013, Europe's top cancer charity, Cancer Research UK, combined with the University of Cambridge to fund the world class Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute (CRUK CI), situated on the Addenbrooke's Biomedical Campus in Cambridge.
As part of the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, the Institute's research ranges from basic cancer biology through translational cancer research to clinical application. The Institute currently houses over 350 researchers and support staff with 22 research groups and associated core facilities in a state-of-the-art research facility.
