Applications are invited for the post of Research Assistant/Associate in Statistics & Database Management to join a research group working on the development of Clinical Trial Simulators.
The Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology (DIDE) in the School of Public Health at Imperial College, London (UK) and the Janssen Prevention Centre (JPC) of Excellence for Immunoprophylaxis of Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson in Leiden, The Netherlands, are collaborating on the development of phase II and phase III trial simulators in the form of the Immunotherapy trial simulation group (ITS) that will be based in the School of Public Health at Imperial College and funded by JPC. ITS has been established to improve the support from quantitative sciences into the decision-making for product development and implementation for clinical trials in the vaccine and immunotherapy fields. ITS includes 3 postdoctoral Research Associates and a Project Manager.
Joint research will focus on therapies and immunoprophylaxis against Alzheimer’s disease. This is a complex field and involves the modelling of progression to various stages of Alzheimer’s disease. The trial simulators will be designed to examine new therapeutic approaches. Professor Sir Roy Anderson is the principal investigator (PI) at Imperial.
The post holder will use statistics for parameter estimation for the analysis of outcomes of mathematical models on the behaviour of disease caused by a self-antigen (Amyloid-β and tau) and of possible trial outcomes under many different assumptions about disease progression and the impact of prophylactic interventions.
The post holder will work in close collaboration with two colleagues. One being responsible for the construction of mathematical models for Alzheimer’s Disease, respectively and the other being responsible for computer programming of these models and their parameters.
Successful applicants will have a PhD (for appointment as Research Associate) or MSc (for appointment as Research Assistant) or equivalent in one of the following areas: applied mathematics, (bio-) statistics, and computational biology. They will also Research experience of working with statistical software (SAS, Stata, R) and statistical analysis
This is a full time post for a fixed term until 18 May 2017.
