Research Assistant in Parasite Molecular and Cell Biology Faculty of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, Pathogen Molecular Biology Department
We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant in Parasite Molecular and Cell Biology.
The successful applicant will conduct research on variable gene expression in the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum, culturing and cloning selected parasite lines. This is a strategic part of a research programme supported by an ERC Advanced Award to Professor David Conway. The post is based in London at LSHTM, and involves collaboration with research groups in West Africa, and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in the UK. Responsibilities include parasite culture adaptation studies, and cloning experiments with a focus on growth phenotypes and expression profiles. The ideal applicant will be experienced in malaria parasite cell culture, gene transcript analysis by quantitative RT-PCR and/or bioinformatics applied to RNAseq data.
The post is full time, funded by the European Research Council (ERC) for a period of 18 months and is available from 4th January 2016 until 30th June 2017. Salary is on the Academic Pathway from £32,647 to £37,477 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting).
