Job Description:
Applications are invited for a Research Assistant in the Department of Molecular Neuroscience as part of the Wellcome Trust funded research project – “The role of 3’ UTR variation in the molecular pathogenesis of motor neuron disease” under the supervision of Professor Jernej Ule. The postholder will contribute to the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data, including quality control, integration, and the visualisation of sequencing data produced by transcriptomic methods, such as RNAseq, iCLIP, and ribosome profiling. Applicants should have a BSc or equivalent in computer science / engineering or bioinformatics, and good programming / scripting skills (eg Python). Experience of working in a Linux based environment and using relational databases is essential, as is an understanding of research methodology, the ability to work collaboratively and flexibly, and excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. An MSc in Bioinformatics, hands on experience of computational biology, and a working knowledge of bioinformatics software tools is desirable. The post is available from December 2014, and is funded for one year in the first instance by the Wellcome Trust. Starting salary on UCL Grade 6b in the range £29,193 – £30,783 per annum including London Allowance.
