Job Description:
The multi-scale muscle mechanics ("M3") laboratory in the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Virginia is looking for a post-doctoral research associate to work in the area of computational modeling of skeletal muscle growth and adaptation, under the direct supervision of Dr. Silvia Salinas Blemker and Dr. Shayn Peirce-Cottler. The individual will work with a multi-disciplinary team on a NASA-funded study to develop computational models of muscle adaptation to predict effects of exercise on muscle remodeling during long-term space flight.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, computational biology, computer science, or a related field, ideally with a strong background in muscle physiology. Familiarity in one or more of the following areas is also a plus: cardiac or skeletal muscle experimentation, medical imaging, finite-element modeling, and/or agent-based modeling is a plus. Duties include developing and validating new computational models of muscle, accessing and curating clinical data repository, project management, interacting with NASA scientists, faculty, and students, giving presentations, writing journal articles, and writing proposals.
