Job Description:
This position will function within the Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Service Unit at the Oregon National Primate Research Center. This position is responsible for performing bioinformatic analysis of next generation DNA and RNA sequence data, including scripting, establishing pipeline analyses, summarizing and presenting results. The short-term projects will be defined and evaluated by the supervisor. This position requires a hard working, dedicated individual who has careful attention to detail. Strong computational skills are required for data analysis and documentation. Must interact and communicate effectively with bioinformatics team members. This position does not require direct work with NHPs.

Required:

-Master's degree in Biology, Computer Science or related field.

-At least one year relevant research experience in bioinformatic analysis of next-generation sequencing data -Ability to communicate effectively, in both written and oral formats.

-Ability to work both independently and in a small group setting, and one-on-one with collaborators in a positive and productive manner.

-Working knowledge of at least one programming language.

-Demonstrated independence and competence to perform data management and analysis of research finding, including use of spreadsheets, graphics and statistical programs.

-Ability to prioritize work demands, and coordinate research protocols with other staff.

-Organizational skills and careful attention to details to satisfactorily perform job duties.

-Quality control and review of data skills.

-High level of self-motivation and integrity.

-Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred:

-Master's degree in Bioinformatics.

-Experience in Illumina-based short read sequence analysis, programming in “R”, python and java, and Linux based informatics software.

-Previous experience with RNAseq analysis and variant detection is preferred.

-Ability to work independently, to problem solve, to produce clear documentation of work, to produce graphical summaries of data, to contribute to the writing of manuscripts, and grant applications, demonstrated experience in problem solving.
