The Casey Laboratory at the University of Virginia seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of inherited cancer risk with a focus on genetics, genomics and computational biology. The candidate will join an interactive group of motivated scientists in the Center for Public Health Genomics (http://cphg.virginia.edu) at the University of Virginia to study the biology of genetic risk factors involved in colorectal cancer.
Our approach integrates an increasingly large amount of 'omics and cell biology data. We are incorporating epigenetic (ChIP-Seq and ATAC-Seq), genetic/genomic (genome wide association studies, whole genome sequencing and RNA-Seq) and cell biology (normal human colon 3D organoid "mini-gut" models and CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing) approaches to interrogate the biological and mechanistic basis of inherited risk variants. Our goal is to fully understand the early development of colorectal cancer with the aim of developing prevention methods.
Candidates must have a PhD or MD in Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology or a related field degree in hand by start date and have demonstrated expertise in molecular genomics. Must have experience in at least two of the following: genetics, genomics, computational biology/bioinformatics; molecular biology; high throughput genome analysis. Additional experience with bioinformatics tools is highly preferred. Successful candidates must exhibit independence, creativity, and effective oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications and conference presentations.
