Job Description:
The Centre for Biodiversity and Environmental Research (CBER), in the Department of Genetics, Evolution and the Environment is looking to appoint a Research Associate to join Dr Seirian Sumner’s group, to contribute to a NERC-funded project on the molecular transitions in social evolution. The post holder will be an active member of the research team, contributing to the development of research projects, experimental design, data collection and analyses and manuscript preparation. The post-holder will be expected to produce independent, original contributions to the subject area. This post is funded for 18 months in the first instance and is available immediately. The successful candidate must hold (or about to be awarded) a PhD degree in Genetics/Genomics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or other relevant subject area. Demonstrated experience with bioinformatic analysis of next-generation sequencing data, including transcriptomic (RNAseq) and proteomic (GC-MS) data, as well as familiarity with R, PERL or similar tools are essential. Research experience with behavioural ecology, evolutionary biology, or social insect ecology is desirable.

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,056 - £41,163 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Please note: Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £29,809 - £31,432 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (including corrections).
