Job Description:
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

Primarily responsible is assisting the principal biostatistician in carrying out statistical data analysis related to various aspects of medical research. Perform descriptive data analysis and hypothesis driven statistical modeling up to the level of logistic regression, mixed effects regression, and categorical data analysis. Duties include preparation of reports that result from such analyses. Assist with the design and performance of more complex analyses under the direction, as needed, of the team biostatisticians. May also be involved with data preparation and statistical software management.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write computer code (in SAS or R) to perform analyses and prepare the corresponding reports.
  • Prepare data, compute descriptive statistical analyses, and write reports with minimal supervision.
  • Assist the lead biostatistician in the performance of more complex statistical analyses and the preparation of reports resulting from such analyses. In conjunction with this responsibility, the candidate must possess an ability and willingness to learn new statistical theory and applied techniques as these are developed or adopted.
  • Assist the lead biostatistician in writing computer programs for preprocessing raw data for analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation, review, and editing of the statistical sections of manuscripts and other reports resulting from the research project.
  • Work with the lead biostatistician and the team of investigators (including those from other institutions) to identify, accommodate, and prioritize the statistical analysis needs of the research team.
  • Assist the lead biostatistician in educating the research team in statistical principles and practices relevant to the success of individual projects.
Education Required:

Bachelor’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience Required:

Minimum of 1-3 years’ R or SAS statistical software including:

  • dataset creation,
  • merging and data step programming,
  • use of SAS macros and/or user-defined R functions, and
  • Knowledge of basic procedures for statistical analysis.
  • Minimum 6 months- 1 year progressively responsible research experience is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or related area is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and in a team environment is highly desirable.
  • Experience in the analysis of epidemiological and/or medical research data is highly desirable .
  • Experience with repeated measures analysis, linear and non-linear mixed effects regression, and survival analysis is highly desirable.
