Job Description:
Skill sets: Molecular biology, cell biology, bioinformatics, modelling, phylogenetics.

A post-doctoral position is available to reconstruct the composition, evolution and function of kinetochores in apicomplexans and dinoflagellates. Kinetochores are central components of the chromosome segregation machinery in all eukaryotes, but little is known of their molecular composition in apicomplexan parasites or dinoflagellate algae. This project will use a combination of bioinformatics methods, proteomics and molecular genetics to characterise the composition and behaviours of kinetochores in these two important eukaryotic groups. This project will be based in the University of Cambridge, Department of Biochemistry.

Candidates should have a PhD in molecular biology and bioinformatics, and have good knowledge of eukaryotic diversity and mitotic biology. Experience in bioinformatics and comparative genomics (phylogenetics, hidden Markov models, programming), and cell biology and biochemistry (affinity purification, proteomics, time-lapse microscopy, FACS) will be an advantage. A track record of publishing in high quality journals, and the ability to work both as part of a team, and independently, coupled with excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills are required.

The position is available from April 2018, and is funded for 18 months.
