Job Description:
Dr. Ming Tsao’s laboratory at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Associate, with strong computational and analytical skills. Our lung cancer translational research program aims to identify novel genes and proteins that are better than clinical predictors alone in predicting clinical outcome or response and resistance to therapies. The lab generates large-scale multi-omic data from patients and matched patient-derived tumor xenograft (PDX) models to predict driver mutations, altered biological pathways, and functional impact. The successful applicant will lead and be responsible for the analysis and integration of diverse omic datasets (exome-/RNA-/miRNA-sequencing, methylation, copy number, proteomics) to identify prognostic and predictive biomarkers in non-small cell lung cancer. The biological functions of these predictive genes are then studied using PDX and organoid models. The applicant is expected to work independently, as well as part of a large, dynamic and interdisciplinary research team. The position will require interaction with others with diverse area of expertise, including clinicians, biologists, bioinformaticians and statisticians. Contributions to scientific publications are expected. A strong track record of excellent teamwork, communication skills and academic productivity including publications is required.

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree (PhD preferred) in genomics, computational biology, statistical genetics, bioinformatics, or molecular biology with a strong computational background
  • Seven (7) years experience with at least one of the following analyses:
  • Somatic next-generation sequencing
  • miRNA/RNA-seq
  • Microarray for gene expression and copy number variation
  • Machine learning
  • Survival
  • Knowledge of basic statistics
  • Experience with programming and data analysis in R/Matlab and Perl/Python
  • Familiarity with high performance computing and shell scripting
  • Good knowledge of molecular biology, genomics and cancer
There will be ample opportunity for professional development. Salary will commensurate with experience. We invite you to apply by sending your CV and the names of 3 references to npham@uhnresearch.ca. We thank all applicants, however, only those under consideration will be contacted.
