Transplant Diagnostics (TDX) develops and distributes several lines of histocompatibility (HLA) typing tests utilizing both serological and molecular technologies. TDX also manufactures a comprehensive line of antibody detection products, laboratory instrumentation, and computer software that are used to simplify and automate testing procedures and final test evaluations.
Position Summary:
As a member of the Molecular Biology team responsible for understanding and performing daily testing to develop noble methods or protocols for new molecular HLA typing products.
Key Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Independently propose, plan, design and conduct experiments in DNA/oligo quantification, gene amplification, Sanger sequencing, next generation sequencing (NGS), and reverse SSO assay and other relevant technologies in molecular biology or related field.
• Research and develop new products using existing and new technologies used in the HLA typing industry, with strong bench skill.
• Understand development objectives; propose experimental methods, approaches, priorities, milestones, based on goals and time frame within the scope of scientific and business product development plan.
• Comply with all quality policies and actively participate in maintenance and updating of all required SOP’s and quality records of equipment maintenance, tests, analyses and designing experiments as needed.
• Manage and prioritize daily assignments approved by Supervisor, Research Director of VP to ensure completion of the assignment.
• Manage and maintain required reagents, laboratory environment and equipment needed to carry out assignment.
• Must be a team player to collaborate closely with and train other members in the department to complete highest priority work as directed. • Responsible for understanding and implementing relevant company and department policies and procedures.
• Responsible and accountable for maintenance of a safe work environment including proper staff training in laboratory safety procedures, maintenance and stocking of proper safety equipment and supplies.
• Attendance and participation in schedules planning meetings and/or status meetings.
• Provide or propose technical and analytical methods in development of DNA-based molecular typing reagents for HLA and related genes for clinical use.
• This position interacts with the laboratory staffs including project leaders and general laboratory staff members in coordinating daily activities.
Accountability:
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive laboratory and business data. He/she is expected to maintain work schedules as assigned. This position will, on a timely basis, notify immediate supervisor of status and completion of assigned work projects/tasks. In addition, he/she will ensure that safe laboratory procedures and protocols are followed at all times especially in the application of universal precautions in handling of all blood and blood byproducts. All laboratory personnel are expected to notify their immediate supervisors of any unsafe conditions and/or practices and to take appropriate corrective actions.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required or Master’s preferred, with studies in the Biological Sciences or studies in human genomics strongly recommended.
• Basic course work in molecular biology, nucleic acid chemistry or equivalent required
• Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate or equivalent independent research experience with in-depth knowledge and bench skill in DNA sequencing.
• Experience with Ion Torrent PGM or other NGS sequencer and library preparation for targeted sequencing is a plus.
• Proven recent hands on experience in repetitive work and theoretical understanding in development of genotyping product for polymorphic gene system under GMP or equivalent environment in industry or equivalent experience.
• Must be highly motivated individual with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of current genotyping techniques and software-based analysis.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Laboratory setting. Occasionally sit in front of monitor utilizing PC for data input and/or analysis.
