Research AssociateUniversity of ColoradoMedicineUSA-Denver, CO-Anschutz Medical Campus The research in the Schwartz/Yang Lab focuses on understanding how environmental stimuli affect health through genetic and epigenetic mechanisms. State-of-the-art techniques, including next generation sequencing, genomewide association studies (GWAS) and genomewide epigenome studies (EWAS) in mice and human cohorts are used regularly to accomplish these goals. The Bioinformatics Analyst will be the lead analyst for all projects conducted in the laboratory.

Responsibilities:
1. Implements existing solutions for analysis of next generation sequencing and microarray data for analysis of genetic variants, DNA methylation and histone modifications, and gene and miRNA expression. This includes but is not limited to Bioconductor and other R packages for genomic analyses.
2. Write advanced custom scripts to manipulate complex genomic and clinical datasets, access databases and perform data analysis.
3. Works closely with faculty (PI and other collaborators) as well as laboratory personnel (graduate students, postdocs, and professional research assistants) to implement bioinformatics solutions for specific projects.
4. Interfaces with other biostatistics/bioinformatics/database analysts in collaborating labs to provide bioinformatics solutions for specific projects.
6. Manages genetic and genomic data and facilitates transfer of data from the database to the Linux analysis cluster.
7. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish a variety of complicated tasks.
8. Reads the literature, participates in campus working groups, and online bioinformatics forums to stay at the cutting edge of bioinformatics solutions for genomic analyses.
9. Must have the ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
10. Learns new programming languages, libraries, and techniques as needed.
11. Performs all other duties as assigned.  Qualifications: PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or related field is required. Excellent skills using bioinformatics to solve biologically important questions. Advanced skills in high-throughput data analysis and familiarity with widely used genomic databases and software including R and Bioconductor. Advanced skills in utility programming (Python or similar language) and working in a Linux environment (bash, awk etc) on a cluster. Must be able to work independently and have advanced problem solving skills. Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
