Job Description:
This Bioinformatician post is to join the Centre for Computational Biology and the Institute of Translational Medicine, working with Prof Georgios Gkoutos. The post holder will be responsible for the integration and analysis of data related to trauma patients as well as the development of a variety of AI methods for predicting complex clinical outcomes and improved patient stratification. An excellent network of biomedical, clinical and technological collaborations offers novel data types and datasets, as well as opportunities for discovery validation and translation into clinic or pharma by domain experts.

The postholder will part of the NIHR Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre (NIHR SRMRC), a collaborative venture between the NIHR (DoH), the Ministry of Defence (RCDM), UHBFT and UoB. It has been established for 5 years and has recently been awarded a further 3 years of funding totalling £6million. The core aim of the NIHR SRMRC is to provide an unrivalled research environment to improve the care of those who sustain major injury in both military and civilian settings.

Biomedical data is commonly represented through ontologies; experience in using ontologies or formal knowledge in biology or biomedicine is desirable although not essential. The position requires the ability to independently take responsibility for a scientific project, strong teamwork and communication skills, reliability, attention to detail and effective time management.

The duration for the post will be three years offering a considerable scope for innovation and academic development.

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent experience in Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Sciences. You'll need a relevant degree, at a minimum of a 2:1 classification or equivalent. Degree should have links with bioinformatics and science e.g. biological, biomedical, natural sciences, mathematics and computer science.

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £29,301 to £38,183. With potential progression once in post to £40,523 a year.
