Research Associate/Fellow and Senior Research Fellow – Synthetic Biology / Molecular Biology
Applications are invited for the above posts in the Synthetic Biology Research Centre (SBRC), based in the University’s flagship research building: Centre for Biomolecular Sciences, University Park, Nottingham.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of one of the UK’s largest microbial synthetic biology research groups. This post will lead and deliver individual and collaborative research for the SBRC in the creation and exploitation of gas fermenting microbial chassis for the sustainable production of chemicals and fuels.
The Research Associate/Fellow posts will form part of the ‘wet-lab based’ team tasked with the experimental formulation and iterative testing of gas fermenting chassis. The SBRC research team is multi-disciplinary and there will be close interaction with other members of the team, in particular the ‘dry’ scientists to iteratively design, model and analyse the microbial chassis. The posts will operate within a framework of Responsible Research Innovation (RRI) under the guidance of SBRC social scientists and the post-holder will be expected to undertake outreach activities coordinated by the SBRC Outreach Officer.
The Senior Research Fellow post-holder will be responsible for generating new intellectual understanding and knowledge relating to Synthetic Biology, its applications in SBRC goals and for developing ideas for application of research outcomes. They will contribute towards the supervision of PhD students and the management of more junior postdoctoral and technical research staff. The SBRC research team is multi-disciplinary and there will be close interaction with other members of the team, including chemists and, in particular, the ‘dry’ scientists to iteratively design, model and analyse the microbial chassis.
The post holder will develop new concepts and ideas and will be expected, where appropriate, to develop and win support for innovative research and/or teaching development proposals and funding bids.
