Job Description:
The Yang Zhang Lab at Department of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics, University of Michigan Medical School, is seeking a Senior Research Laboratory Specialist who will serve as the lab manager and will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and staff of Dr. Yang Zhang's wet lab in MSRB and dry lab in Palmer Commons. Responsibilities: The Research Lab Specialist will be responsible for: (1) Developing and applying computational methods for large-scale and genome-wide protein structure and function modeling; (2) Maintaining multiple on-line server systems for protein structure and function prediction, protein design and protein engineering, ligand-protein docking, protein-protein interaction and structure-based drug discovery; (3) Helping faculty members in junior student mentoring and bioinformatics lab management which includes oversight of 3-5 Visiting Scholars and 3-5 Research Fellows. Required Qualifications: Candidates who hold a Master or PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related fields, and have research experience in Structural Bioinformatics are encouraged to apply. Skills in computer coding and web-server management, as well as skills in interpersonal communication with motivation and ability to lead an independent bioinformatics laboratory, are essential. 5-6 years of related experience is required. Desired Qualifications: Supervisory and financial management experience.
