Responsibilities
- Provide bioinformatics leadership for internal R&D by engaging scientists, scoping problems, designing and implementing analysis solutions for the purpose of diagnostic product development in oncology and genetics.
- Lead the design and implementation of (prototype) workflows for the analysis of NGS data from a multitude of study designs, diseases areas and analytes in a platform independent manner.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for statistical, algorithmic and computational issues relevant to the analytical and clinical validation of NGS tests.
- Work iteratively with stakeholders to address problems relevant to hypothesis testing and biomarker validation in a range of biological contexts.
- Effectively weigh the costs and benefits of de novo implementations versus adapting publicly available software.
- Detailed knowledge of algorithms underlying common NGS analysis tools. This includes in-depth knowledge of probability and statistics (especially dynamic programming and graphical models) as demonstrated by graduate level course work.
- A track record of solving complex biological problems as demonstrated by senior authorship in peer review publications.
- A track record for effectively communicating and visualizing information.
- Expert knowledge of R (Bioconductor) and a scripting language such as Python.
- PhD in computer science, statistics or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral experience in academia or industry.
- Experience building and / or managing a team.
- Must be comfortable providing leadership in a competitive landscape and operating independently with incomplete information.
