Job Description:
A research opportunity is available with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agriculture Research Service (ARS), Crop Improvement and Genetics Research Unit, in Albany, California with GrainGenes (https://wheat.pw.usda.gov/GG3/). GrainGenes is a repository and digital platform for small grains communities (wheat, barley, oat, and rye), and act as a long-term central repository for their peer-reviewed data. The incumbent will be trained in GrainGenes and will assist GrainGenes's mission by: -Ensuring and maintaining smooth, reliable, and secure operation of distributed storage and processing servers. -Improving and enhancing GrainGenes web interfaces. -Implementing and developing web-based tools. The appointment is full-time for 12 months and may be renewed based upon recommendation of the ARS and availability of funding. The selected applicant will receive a stipend in an amount up to $72,303 as support for their living and other expenses during this appointment. The participant must show proof of health and medical insurance. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE. The participant will also be awarded a health insurance stipend supplement up to $14,723 per year, a relocation allowance up to $5,000, and a science and research travel allowance up to $4,000 per year. The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, USDA, ARS, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment. While participants will not enter into an employment relationship with ARS, this position requires a pre-appointment check and a full background investigation. This opportunity is available to U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR), and foreign nationals. Qualifications
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, physics, bioinformatics or equivalent experience/training. Experience with multiple operating systems with specific emphasis on Unix and Linux systems, modern programming languages, relational database management systems, and web technologies interacting with databases. Working knowledge of network storage, hardware, file system management, backup/recovery, IT security concepts. Experience a number of programming languages/tools, such as Perl, PHP, Javascript, and MySQL. Preferred: -Experience using and programming for content management systems, especially Drupal. -Knowledge of diverse, biologically-relevant fundamental computer algorithms and visualization tools (such as BLAST, GBrowse) -Previous experience in biological database research groups.Requeriments :
