Job Description:
In the position of Research Scientist/Bioinformatician, you will be responsible for performing statistical genetics and biostatistical work on several new and ongoing projects under the leadership of Dr. Kenan Onel, MD, PhD, Chief of Human Genetics and Genomics and Director of Clinical Genomics for Northwell Health.

You will participate in the analysis of large datasets that will include clinical, gene expression, next generation sequencing and genotyping data, manage large databases and generate figures for grants and papers.You will also serve as a genetics and genomics biostatistical resource for postdoctoral fellows and junior scientists within the group and work with a team of other geneticists and statisticians to provide expertise in biostatistics.

-Develop and implement statistical methods and software to analyze next generation sequencing data for genetic risk, disease mechanism, and drug response.

-Integrate and translate data into novel diagnostics, therapeutics and disease mechanisms.

-Communicate with PI regularly and contribute to the success of the research team.

-Develop and maintain productive collaborations within Pediatric Genetics, Northwell Health, and outside researchers.

Qualifications:

-Doctorate in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, genomics, or a related field.

-Programming skills in R, Perl, Python, Java, C++, and Unix shell scripting.

-Excellent track record of analyzing next generation sequencing data preferred.

-Prior experience with statistics, statistical genetics, bioinformatics concepts, methods and tools. Familiarity with genomic data tools, repositories, and databases.
