Job Description:
The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Corrigan Minehan Heart Center and Cardiovascular Research Center is seeking a highly motivated individual to work on multiple clinical and translational research projects focused on cardiovascular disease. The new team member should have prior experience in management, manipulation, and analysis of high-dimensional ‘omics datasets derived from multiple types of experimental designs. Interest in or experience with applying statistical learning approaches and developing computational tools to analyzing data would also be very highly valued.

This Research Scientist position offers the opportunity to work directly with the Senior Investigator as part of a collaborative team of clinicians and scientists. Responsibilities will include managing databases, using both conventional and advanced approaches to analyze large databases of human and experimental ‘omics data, contributing to the preparation and presentation of research results in the form of oral presentation at meetings and conferences and in the form of publications, and, coordinating collaborative research activities with investigators within other Harvard departments and at other institutions across the U.S. and other countries around the world. The successful candidate is highly motivated, scientifically inquisitive, and thrives in an academic/professional atmosphere, where interdisciplinary teams are central to project success.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for ensuring high-quality organization and analyses of multi-dimensional research data.
  • Contribute to study design as well as creation and implementation of analytical plans for specific research projects or a set of research projects.
  • Contribute to the preparation and presentation of research results in the form of oral presentations at meetings and conferences as well as in the form of original research publications.
  • Coordinate collaborative data analysis related activities with investigators within other Harvard departments and at other institutions across the U.S., and Europe.
  • Communicate regularly and proactively with team members to assure analytical goals are achieved
  • Participate actively in mentorship of post-doctoral staff and research team members

Qualifications:

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Undergraduate degree with at least 2 years of highly relevant experience, or Masters or PhD degree preferably in an analytical and/or computational field.
  • Strong interest in clinical and/or translational research is required.
  • Experience using R, STATA, and/or SAS to analyze large datasets required.
  • Experience with Python and working in Linux environments preferred.
  • Direct experience performing analyses of genetic, other omics, and/or geospatial data would be highly valued.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Candidate must be highly organized and have precise attention to detail.
  • Able to multitask and assign priorities in a busy, start-up like environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with a dynamic team.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subjects’ rights and individual needs.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities
  • Preferred 1 year of relevant work experience
  • May assist with the mentorship of post-doctoral staff and trainees
