Job Description:
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Bayer seeks to further develop bioinformatics capabilities in the field of data curation of genomics and phenotype/clinical data to meet the challenges of precision medicine.
•Interacting with scientists to collect important research data, typically NGS or genomics data sets, from proprietary, CRO, or public sources, and storing it properly
•Collecting meta-information about the data in a consistent manner and annotating data using controlled vocabulary/ontology to meet the needs of cross-study meta-analyses and other data repurposing efforts
•Interact proactively with IT colleagues to ensure the data is captured in high quality, consistently, and well annotated in the corresponding IT systems
•Drive building or acquiring annotation tools, selecting and maintaining ontologies of different types and create a professional tool environment enabling those tasks
WHO YOU ARE
•Ph.D. with in-depth knowledge in bioinformatics, biochemistry, or a related field
•Familiarity with NGS data on different levels and a proven record of handling and analyzing genomics data in the fields of oncology or cardiology
•Experience in data- and knowledge management, especially in data annotation as well as in using ontologies or controlled vocabulary
•Proficiency in programming, scripting and database management systems (incl. nosql DBs)
•Ability to naturally cross borders between departments or scientific disciplines, especially between research scientists and IT staff and enjoy working in teams as well as giving guidance to colleagues
•Strong analytical thinking for systematic approaches in a goal-oriented manner
•Willingness for continuous professional development
•Excellent written and verbal communication in English, a good working knowledge of German would be of advantage
