Job Description:
Working at MIT offers opportunities, an environment, a culture – and benefits – that just aren’t found together anywhere else. If you’re curious, motivated, want to be part of a unique community, and help shape the future – then take a look at this opportunity.

RESEARCH SCIENTIST/COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGIST, Biological Engineering, to help establish a platform for next-generation genetic design at the MIT-Broad Foundry, a synthetic biology facility sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Will join a highly dynamic and multidisciplinary team bringing together novel techniques for molecular biology, automation, and computational analysis in order to establish a new paradigm for biological design. Responsibilities include developing machine-learning algorithms for experimental design, developing computational pipelines for analyzing large “big-data” datasets of transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data; and developing APIs that enable these tools to be used across a distributed research environment. Will work closely with researchers across the country including scientists, engineers, and software developers to ensure the resulting tools have broad utility and are incorporated into community-wide design platforms.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: a master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in bioinformatics, computer science, machine learning, applied statistics, or related field; a minimum of four years’ work experience in a research environment, including significant experience developing machine learning methods and/or computational biology; experience developing analytical software (bioinformatics and/or machine learning) across a variety of platforms and a variety of languages; familiarity with Python; experience developing and utilizing APIs; software development skills including development environments, unit testing, version control, and establishing requirements; superb quantitative, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills; and the ability to work independently and promote collaboration and cooperation among teams. Must enjoy and be effective at working in a fast-paced, cutting-edge, and challenging environment. Job #15149
