Job Description:
We seek a talented computational scientist to specialize in analysis and interpretation of nextgen sequencing data to elucidate key aspects of therapeutic action. The insight gained will contribute directly to identification and development of novel therapies for complex diseases of unmet medical need.

The successful candidate will work closely with Celgene’s global research analytics and epigenetic biology teams to advance our research and development of novel therapeutic agents related to epigenetic mechanisms. The candidate will assist with the analysis and interpretation of experiments that capitalize on cancer therapeutic opportunities in epigenetics. Projects will typically involve integrating multiple genomics data types to produce a robust understanding of a disease state or phenotype. In the context of discovery, these efforts will yield high-confidence novel drug targets, and in the context of translational efforts, an understanding of the mechanism of action of our emerging therapeutics. The candidate will work closely with research analytics team members to define and execute projects, and to communicate discoveries to the biology and clinical teams

Expertise in the analysis of large genomic datasets, and contemporary methods for processing, analysis and integration of NGS data are prerequisite. Individuals with exceptional NGS bioinformatics, communication and collaboration skills are preferred

Responsibilities:

Working alongside computational, biology and clinical researchers across the Celgene Research and Early Development organization, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Pursue leading applied computational genomics approaches aligned with key Celgene scientific objectives.

• Apply contemporary methods for genomic data processing, analysis and mining. Develop and maintain NGS data processing pipeline focusing on the creation of integrated datasets derived from public and internal data sources.

• Design, implement and apply novel algorithms for data mining and data analysis aiming to the interpretation of complex datasets and stratification of patients with diseases of unmet need.

• Provide written documentation and specifications for developed methods and workflows.

• Guide and implement genomic profiling plans including integration and processing of high quality genomic data from internal and external sources for population stratification.

• Contribute to presentation and reporting of methods, results and conclusions to a publishable standard.

Background experience & complementary knowledge:

• PhD in computational biology/bioinformatics, statistics, computer science/math/engineering or a related field with a firm grasp of genomics or genetics

• Postdoctoral experience is preferred, but a strong PhD will be considered

• Published evidence of next-generation sequencing data analysis: familiarity with public alignment pipelines, SNV calling algorithms, common NGS manipulation tools and standardized NGS data formats (e.g. SAM/BAM, VCF)

• Demonstrated competence as programmer fluent in Unix/Linux, Perl or Python, and R/Matlab/SAS

• Experience in analyzing, integrating and interpreting epigenomic and other high-throughput data (e.g. Histone & TF ChIP, DNA methylation, chromatin accessibility, proteomics and expression data)

Salary range: $82,167 – $109,432 (pending experience)
