Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatics scientist to take a key role in statistical analysis of genomics and next generation sequencing data to support multiple therapeutic areas (liver diseases, HIV cure, inflammation, immunotherapy, etc.) from target evaluation to biomarker discovery. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment and will be responsible for developing and employing rigorous statistical modeling and bioinformatics methods, interpreting and integrating large scale datasets to enable research biology objectives.

-Develop and implement, in collaboration with research and biomarker scientists, statistical analysis and quality control of microarray and next generation sequencing data (e.g. RNA-seq, exome-seq, CHIP-seq, whole genome sequencing, etc).

-Apply and create statistical and computational tools for analysis of large genomic and pharmacogenomics data sets from publicly available, commercial, or proprietary genomic databases to enable target identification/assessment, understanding of MOA, disease subtypes, etc.

-Design and apply bioinformatics algorithms, unsupervised and supervised methods, univariate and multivariate regression analyses, etc. to enable the discovery of predictive and prognostic biomarkers and biomarker signatures utilizing preclinical and clinical data .

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

-Designs and implements complex software programs that support goal of project teams.

-Identifies and introduces new technology and/or methods to the organization and trains junior staff.

-Investigates project feasibility and estimates project cost and resource needs.

-Collaborates with research scientists to plan software requirements.

-Manages tasks and personnel involved in software validation.

-Approves changes to database systems and estimates impact of changes.

-Ensures SOPs for business area are current and appropriate.

-Manages data transfer agreements with contract labs supporting clinical trials.

Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are innovative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.

-Demonstrate the ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects and meet timelines.

-Uses strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to communicate objectives and results.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

-A PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, genomics, or a related field.

-7+ years of experience with MS degree in a related scientific discipline.

-3+ years of experience with computational annotation and analysis of large-scale multidisciplinary datasets including genomic data.

-Proficient in object-oriented programming using JAVA, C++, or C#.

-Proficient in GUI development and data visualization.

-Proficient in relational databases and SQL.

-Hands-on experience with Linux/Unix platforms and high-performance computing environment.

-Experience with statistical analysis of biomedical data using SAS® or R software.
