Job Description:
BIOINFORMATICS RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research-MIT BioMicro Center, to join a highly collaborative team supporting a broad range of biological research projects in cancer, infectious disease, environmental health, and other topics in basic and applied biology. Will focus on the analysis of sequencing data and mining public data repositories in collaborative efforts with MIT scientists and faculty; and maintain an understanding of a broad variety of biological questions and methods, synthesize new methodologies and algorithms, and rapidly adapt existing methodologies to new biological areas. The MIT BioMicro Center/Bioinformatics Computing Core is a core facility that provides advanced bioinformatics support and training for researchers in over 100 labs across four departments and centers.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a Ph.D. in biology, computer science, or a related discipline; a minimum of two years’ experience in genomics research; broad knowledge of biology and bioinformatics tools and expertise in areas such as expression analysis (RNAseq), chromatin IP analysis, DNA copy number analysis (CNV), microarray analysis, SNP detection, genomic assembly, and mining public data repositories; solid understanding of next-generation sequencing methodologies and ability to rapidly grasp new fields of study; demonstrable expertise in programming (e.g., Perl / Python, BioPerl, Java, R, MySQL) and UNIX-based computational environments; and excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills. Seek highly organized and self-motivated individual with demonstrated critical thinking skills who is able to perform both self-directed and guided research, set priorities, multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
