Job Description:
The Cancer Informatics Core at the Moffitt Cancer Center is looking for a highly motivated and dedicated research software developer. The successful candidate will join the Moffitt Cancer Center's Cancer Informatics Core Facility as a Software Developer II focused on Research Informatics and software development who works on a wide range of challenging informatics/database projects in close collaboration with a varied group of investigators including fellow computational biologists, molecular biologists and physician-scientists. Activities will include leading software/database development projects, creation of appropriate documentation, code and software artifacts (database and system design), participation in discussions of new projects and large scale development initiatives. The software developer II contributes in gathering system requirements, analyzes system solutions and designs, and develops complex databases and applications. They will also participate in building information logical data models, major entities, attributes, relationships and software components as well as provides database administration and support, system change management requests, monitoring, performance tuning, backup and recovery, software modification, tool implementation and upgrades. The candidate will provide informatics solutions to multiple projects/teams and assist in design, interpretation, and visualization of data, and thus move our science, and goal of precision medicine forward.

Education Required:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Information Systems or Clinical Informatics. Masters degree preferred.

Experience Required:

Strong programming skills in Java, Python, JavaScript, PHP, object oriented design, SQL and database development. Sound knowledge of HTML5, CSS, and Interfacing with back-end applications using RESTful services, and JSON.

5-year experience in software development (SDLC) and database design/administration is required. Experience with web frameworks such as Laravel, Django, node.js or JQuery as well as NoSQL databases and Mobile development is desired. Experience with web services and distributed computing strongly preferred. Linux experience, including shell scripting and Linux systems administration, is preferred.

The Moffitt Cancer Center offers many opportunities to collaborate with clinical, population and basic science investigators. The Department currently has 11 faculty members engaged in both original research in data science as well as a wide range of collaborative research on clinical and biological studies in cancer including novel therapeutic and drug discoveries, prognostic and predictive biomarker development, high throughput genomics, proteomics, next-generation sequencing, RNASeq expression, and personalized medicine studies. Many of these projects draw upon Moffitt's Total Cancer Care initiative, which provides access to a comprehensive set of clinical and molecular profiling data (gene expression and next-gen sequencing) on a large number of cancer patients. The Cancer Informatics Core is involved in emerging technology applications in health care (mHealth), including wearable devices, lifestyle monitors and other mobile technologies. With this focus on technologies, we are looking for a software developer to help develop applications in this area as well as applying "big data" algorithms to this lifestyle data.
