Job Description:
The Research Specialist 2 will design and implement research that focuses on investigation of human genome function in healthy and disease cohorts. All projects will be related to translational or clinical research broadly defined and will include support for high throughput genomic technologies. Perform integrative statistical analysis of genome-wide genomic datasets. Write and implement efficient and effective code and pipelines for data processing and analysis. Coordinate work with other scientists in the laboratory and collaborate effectively on joint research projects. Download and organize data repositories. Recognize abnormal results and trouble shoot analytic pipelines to correct problems. Adapt existing procedures to current work needs and make significant contributions to analysis methodology. Summarize results and assist in interpreting findings. Present findings at internal and external venues, and in written publications. Assist in supervising laboratory trainees. Assist in grant writing. Education: - Bachelor's degree in statistics, computer science, genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, population genetics or a field of study relevant to the research being conducted required. -Advanced degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted preferred. Experience: -A minimum of 6 months of relevant research experience required. -Sound knowledge of applied statistics. -Knowledge in bioinformatics required. -Experience in analysis of DNA-seq, RNA-seq, and/or CHiP-seq data, as well as experience constructing complex biological networks desired. -Demonstrated expertise in genome-wide genomic analysis preferred. -Cloud computing experience required. Competencies: -Ability to train others required. -Knowledge in relevant scientific field required. -Knowledge of research techniques or methods required. -Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures required. -Analytical skills required. -Problem-solving skills required. -Attention to detail required. -Organizational skills required. -Verbal and written communication skills required. -Ability to work independently and as part of a team required. -Knowledge of Microsoft Office required.

The goal of the lab is to sift through the vast amounts of genomic data to make discoveries that can be translated to improve the health of people. We are currently building an analytical infrastructure that includes statistical and computational methods, pipelines and workflows, streamlined access to big data, and research software engineering, bioinformatic and analysis team. We have established collaborations with national and international collaborators and consortia to identify the most pressing problems that we can address with our expertise.
