Job Description:
This Genomics Technician will provide technical assistance to NGS affiliated GSoLS faculty, staff and students and external faculty in support of research and scholarship and in laboratory course instruction.

The position responsibilities include:

  • Performing pre- and post-sequencing analyses using the MiSeq NGS systems from quality control to data acquisition).
  • Maintain the NGS system and related equipment and act as the primary responsible party for troubleshooting issues in order to provide advice to faculty/students to support research/teaching activities.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of all laboratory activities, including supply inventories.
  • Implement new methodologies and services to support the MiSeq NGS.
  • Have a mastery of molecular biology techniques pertaining to genomics-based technologies.
  • Efficiently manage internal and external projects.
  • Maintain a highly professional demeanor and collegiality with faculty/staff/students.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students is desired
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (Molecular Biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics or related field) with a minimum of 3 years of professional laboratory experience in the area of genomics.
  • Required Minimum Education Level: Bachelors or Equivalent Experience, BS
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with DNA/RNA and library preparation for next generation sequencing, quality control with Bioanalyzer, and bioinformatics analyses of next generation sequencing data.

The Thomas H. Gosnell School of Life Sciences (GSoLS) recently acquired an Illumina MiSeq Next Generation Sequencing System (NGS). This system will improve in-house capacity for research and enhance our instruction capabilities in our Biotechnology and Molecular Bioscience, Biology, Bioinformatics and Environmental Sciences academic programs.
