Job Description:
The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Library and Archives is currently accepting applications for a Science Informationist position.
The Informationist will lead and shape innovative information management programs with emphasis on the retrieval, organization and filtering of information associated with the current research at CSHL , which includes cancer, plant genetics, and bioinformatics.
The candidate will be involved with writing grant proposals for special projects (history of science, data management, and others) and carrying out funded initiatives.
The candidate will also assist the Executive Director in preparation of presentations for meetings and conferences at CSHL and at outside institutions. And with the preparation of proposals and planning of Archive sponsored meetings.
Position Requirements
Advanced degree in the Life Sciences or in the history of science with a BS in Biology is required.
Experience working in a scientific environment with students, faculty and staff and providing instruction to individuals or groups in an academic setting.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse populations in an academic setting.
Excellent writing and communication skills are required with experience writing grant proposals and carrying out funded initiatives.
Ability to creatively plan and execute multi-dimensional services and programs.
A passionate interest in current Life Sciences research and experience in science communication is preferred.
Ability to identify granting institutions for appropriate grant opportunities for the Library & Archives, including government grants ( NIH and NSF ) and private foundation applications. Candidate will be required to follow CSHL grant processes and procedures to write and submit grants.
Proficiencies required:
Familiarity with scholarly publications in the cancer, genetics, and and bioinformatics fields.
Familiarity with health and life sciences databases and thorough knowledge of search interfaces.
Excellent interpersonal, multitasking, verbal and written communication skills are required.
