Job Description:
Dr. Wendy Chung's Lab at Columbia University Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated Scientific Programmer with strong expertise in bioinformatics. The Chung lab studies human monogenic and complex diseases and clinical implementation of genomic medicine, two critical components of precision medicine. The candidate will established state-of-the-art procedures to analyze large-scale genome and exome sequence data, interpret genetic variants, and apply them in disease studies to identify novel human disease genes. The candidate will have access to growing large sets of data from a broad range of diseases, including breast cancer, autism, and birth defects. The candidate will benefit from a multidisciplinary environment, with close collaborations with experts in systems biology, biomedical informatics, clinical genetics, genetic counseling, and precision medicine.
Minimum Qualifications for Grade
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and experience, plus two years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications
B.S. in genetics, bioinformatics, or related areas. A masters degree with research experience would be preferred.
1. Experience in computational analysis of next generation sequencing data.
2. Knowledge of population genetics and molecular biology.
3. Demonstrated skills in scientific programming (e.g. R and python); strong communication skills and team work.
