Job Description:
Columbia University is looking for a highly motivated data analyst to establish analytical protocols of large-scale cancer genome sequencing effort to improve personalized cancer care. The effort is a critical part of cancer precision medicine initiative at Columbia University. The candidate will be affiliated with Department of Systems Biology and Irving Cancer Research Center, and collaborate closely with experts in computational biology, next-generation sequencing, cancer genetics, clinical informatics, and cancer pathology in Columbia University Medical Center.
Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Establish and maintain robust and highly automated computational pipelines to analyze exome and genome sequencing and RNA-Seq of cancer patients to identify somatic mutations and structural variants.
Perform genomic data analysis in pilot projects using optimized pipelines
Participate the drafting of manuscripts to report novel findings from research and clinical projects
Minimum Qualifications for Grade
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
Requires a Bachelor's degree of Science in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or equivalent in education and experience plus 3 years of related experience
Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
Experience in computational analysis of whole genome sequencing, exome sequencing, or RNA-Seq data.
Strong programming skills. Substantial experience in R, Python (or Perl, Ruby), UNIX and high performance computing cluster.
Knowledge of cancer biology or genetics.
Excellent communication skills both writing and speaking.
Special Instructions
Preferred Qualifications
Master degree of Science in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or equivalent
or equivalent in education and experience
