Job Description:
The Scientist, Biostatistics/Computational Biology will develop and implement mathematical models of diverse microbiome data to inform our discovery and development of live biotherapeutic based drug candidates. In addition, this position will be instrumental in fostering and managing relationships with external thought leaders for the analysis and interpretation of microbiome data. The role will report to the Head of the Microbiome Discovery Platform. Some responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing, implementing and interpreting mathematical models of 1) microbial communities in health and disease, 2) networks of host-microbe and microbe-microbe interactions, 3) complex human and microbial genomic, proteomic and metabolomic data to predict phenotypic outcomes. Work closely with other Microbiome team members involving experimental design, integration of process development and facilitation of data sharing. Present results in visual, oral, and written formats to internal and external stakeholders. The job title and level will correspond to education level, work experience and skills of the selected candidate. Requirements: We are looking for applicants who have an established track-record of high achievement, self-motivation, professionalism, reliability, and excellent organizational skills. • Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in biostatistics, computational biology, bioinformatics or related fields. • Experience with statistical inference, predictive modeling and/or network analyses is required. • 5+ years of experience in a statistical programming language, such as R or SAS, as well UNIX and relational database scripting. • Research experience with microbial community sequencing and metabolomic data is highly desirable. • Excellent analytical and written/verbal communication skills. • Strong motivation, independence, and ability to work in a high-paced multidisciplinary environment. • Strong attention to detail and record keeping are key. Travel: This position is based in our San Francisco facility. Limited travel may be required for this position.
