Scientist for Illumina Clinical Professional Services Group
The Professional Services Group within the Illumina Clinical Services Laboratory at Illumina is seeking a scientist who will be a key member of a growing team who supports medical whole genome sequencing (mWGS). This group will play a critical role in delivering clinical grade sequence information to physicians as a tool for improving patient care.
This position will integrate genetics expertise with the clinical and regulatory requirements of medical implementation. It requires depth of genetics understanding, familiarity with translational and medical uses of genetics, and technical understanding of the Illumina sequencing platforms. The position will require travel for scientific and collaborative purposes. This position is an integral member of the team, with the expectation that this scientist will bring the expertise to identify, build and implement processes and tools that will optimize the value of clinical genome sequencing.

Duties will include:

Problem-solving and strategizing for quality improvement
Ongoing analysis of clinical literature and application of genetic information to clinical context
Internal and external presentations on scientific and clinical aspects of mWGS
Consulting with external clinical laboratories on validation design, data analysis, etc.
Post-sequencing process development to help support the evolving needs of mWGS services
Support interdepartmental educational development and activities
Support collaborations and external program development (e.g., educational programs)
Identify and lead development of quality improvement and efficiencies for the clinical laboratory process (e.g., new features or improvements that will optimize the value of mWGS for physicians and patients)

Expertise in:
genetics and genotype-phenotype relationships
medical applications of genetic information
Ability to analyze medical and scientific literature
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Familiarity with:
statistical analyses
professional and regulatory requirements of a clinical laboratory
informatics and bioinformatic approaches to analysis and management of large datasets, data mining
Excellent communication skills, professional and polished manners
Ability to effectively translate scientific concepts for a wide range of internal and external audiences
Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver in a time-sensitive manner

Requirements:

PhD in genetics or related biological field, or an MD with experience in clinical genetics
Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, high pressure environment
3-5 years experience in medical applications/translation of genetic information
Bioinformatics experience
Familiarity with CLIA/CAP a plus
