Job Description:
We are looking for a talented Computational Biologist/Bioinformatics Scientist to join the Cell Metabolism team.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Analyze both small and large-scale biological data, including metabolomics, proteomics, and transcriptomics. In collaboration with biologists, drive understanding of how cellular metabolism is perturbed by environmental or genetic fluctuation.
  • Work to improve this process – in collaboration with biologists, informaticians, and analytical chemists, develop and improve methods to extract maximal biological insight from both internal and external data.
  • One key focus will be design and implementation of methods for high-throughput analysis of mass spectrometry metabolomics data. Refine methodologies for data storage, processing and visualization, and optimize performance and usability.
Minimum Requirements:
  • BS/MS in Biology, Bioinformatics or related field with 4+ years of experience.
  • Must have experience working with biological or chemical data in a scientific research environment.
  • Expertise in numerical data analysis and scientific programming. Expert-level understanding of at least one scientific computing environment is expected.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or in a small team with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD preferred, with 0+ years of postdoc experience.
  • Experience with mass spectrometry, particularly with metabolomics
  • Advanced understanding of cellular metabolism at the cellular/molecular/biochemical level.
  • Experience in a drug discovery environment.
  • Experience with modern machine learning techniques, advanced statistics and linear algebra Python (numpy/scipy/pandas) experience is preferred. Experience with R, MATLAB, C, and C++ is also a plus.
  • Experience with designing or working with large relational databases, understanding of cloud storage methodologies and best practices.
  • Experience with commercial data visualization platforms, such as Spotfire/Tableau, or experience with web-based data visualization frameworks such as D3.

Additional Info:
The Cell Metabolism department focuses on quantitatively understanding cellular metabolism, relying on state-of-the-art mass spectrometry methods for proteomics, metabolomics, and isotopic labeling studies. Our work includes characterization of the metabolism of tumors with specific genetic features, including the metabolism of both cancer cells and immune cells, as well as metabolic effects of genetic disorders.

At Agios, we are doing incredibly important and difficult work. We are trying to discover and develop breakthrough medicines, and we have a clear motivator — people with cancer and rare genetic diseases who are counting on us to be successful.

We are a science-driven research organization. We have built a discovery platform upon our expertise in the fields of cellular metabolism and precision medicine across three major focus areas: cancer metabolism, rare genetic metabolic disorders and metabolic immuno-oncology.

It takes people with a diversity of thought, skills, passions and backgrounds to get us from the first stages of understanding new biology and discovering drugs to our ultimate goal of getting these medicines to patients who are waiting for them. Our connection to one another and our work and our commitment to our values enable us to potentially change the practice of medicine by by striving for excellence and doing things differently. We call this the "other side of possible."
