You will join our Genomics Lab where your work takes advantage of a diverse array of next-gen sequencing and genome technology tools, including optical mapping and long read sequencing. You are expected to participate in both wet-lab and computational efforts. The results of your scientific efforts will directly contribute to Calico’s long-term mission to positively impact human healthspan and lifespan. Responsibilities:
- This is both a laboratory bench and computational position:
- Design and conduct hands-on laboratory experiments
- Develop new tools or use existing tools for data analysis
- Provide expertise to other members of the Genomics Lab by collaborating with them to analyze experiments, e.g., transcript assembly, gene expression analysis, etc.
- Improve Calico’s NGS lab methods, or innovate and create novel approaches
- Devise experimental and computational solutions for mammalian genome analysis
- Present work at both internal meetings and external scientific conferences
- MS/PhD in molecular biology, genetics, genome sciences, bioengineering, bioinformatics, or related field
- Hands-on NGS laboratory experience:
- At least 3 years prior hand-on laboratory NGS experience e.g., Bionano Genomics, Pacific Biosciences, 10X Genomics, and Illumina
- Demonstrated hands-on proficiency with extant NGS library technology e.g. RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, scRNA-seq, Iso-seq, etc.
- NGS computational experience:
- At least 3 years prior coding ability is required
- Proficiency in Python and R as well as familiarity NGS bioinformatics analysis for gene expression analysis are required
- Experience with genome assembly or analysis of structural variation is preferred
