Come join our Industrial Biosciences team at our Palo Alto, California location as a Scientist II, Molecular Biologist-Expert in Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting

We are looking for a highly motivated and accomplished scientist to join the Molecular Biology group of Industrial Biosciences. The successful applicant will have a proven record of innovative research in at least one of the following areas: molecular biology, microbial/ fungal physiology, and protein expression/secretion and experience in cell sorting/ flow cytometry/microfluidics techniques for strain selection. Experience with robotic and high-throughput screening is highly desirable and know-how of fermentation is considered an asset. The day to day duties will include performing and guiding others in the development and execution of experiments employing single cell techniques for projects aimed at commercializing proteins and small molecules. The successful candidate will be involved in all the steps needed for strain selection including flow cytometry analysis, microfluidics, new technology evaluations, and detection methods, data analysis, interpretation, reporting and follow up discussions.

The applicant must have strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work in global, multidisciplinary teams. Leadership potential is essential. The candidate will work in a strong collaborative environment and will be expected to help and mentor other employees in the experimental design and execution of experiments aimed to achieve short- and long-term project goals.

Job Qualifications Ph.D. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry or equivalent industry experience. At least 2 years Post-doctoral experience with a solid publication record in the above areas The successful candidate will be a creative scientist with experience in cell sorting/ flow cytometry/microfluidics techniques, excellent troubleshooting skills, and leadership in new technology development and implementation. Knowledge of microbial physiology, fermentation, and protein expression/secretion considered an asset. Experience in biochemistry and skills in computational approaches / bioinformatics are preferable. Excellent communication skills and the desire to work within a multidisciplinary team are required. Proven ability to effectively mentor & develop junior colleagues in FACS troubleshooting and emerging new technologies The successful candidate must be motivated, creative, have strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, and be able to excel working independently and in a collaborative setting. Strong analytical and organizational skills are highly desirable.
